Happy New Year!!! I hope everyone had a great holiday season. The end of the year just flew by for us, which is why I’m just now doing a quick holiday recap. I mean, who doesn’t share Christmas decorations and goals for the new year on January 5th?!? And since I’m so late to the party, I won’t be diving into lots of details, but I did want to share a few special moments.
I kept it super simple in here. A wreath on our range hood, garland around our window, and a few touches of evergreen and red.
The main focus in here is the fireplace. I swapped out the image on our TV, and spruced up the mantle with the garland and our Christmas stockings my mom made from the silk centerpieces from our wedding. On either side of the fireplace we added extra greenery, and you can never go wrong with a bowl full of ornaments. Our Nativity set was a gift, and I love the simplicity of it.
I ran garland down the center of the table and added metallic candle holders around the tall white and bronze vases filled with snow-capped greenery. I kept the same plaid placemats I used at Thanksgiving and added reindeer salad plates.
I hung a few mini glass ornaments from our chandelier. The red ones were found local, but the silver ones are from a little shop that we visited in London a few years back. Again, added greenery and ornaments for a few neutral, holiday touches. Next year I hope to add more garland and wreaths to our other bathrooms and bedrooms, but I really didn’t want to buy anything new this first year in our house. I think next year I’ll be more open to adding a few new touches.
Our holiday season was equal parts busy and relaxing. We took the boys to see Santa and baked cookies. The 24th and 25th were spent with our little family, going to church, opening presents, and making lots of happy memories.
We celebrated with Ryan’s family on the 31st and will head to my parents on January 8th. It’s been nice to slowly take in the season and really focus on being present instead of rushing from one place to the next.
My first work-related goal is to share more projects!! I have been working on some really exciting projects, both locally and remotely, and I want to do a better job of sharing more of that here, even if they aren’t the beautifully staged photos that I prefer.
Personally- I’m working to put my phone down and be really present with whoever I’m spending my time with. While I can’t delete social media because of work, I have turned off all notifications, which has really decreased mindless scrolling. My work is busier than ever, forcing me to learn the importance of stepping away, which is hard to do if my phone is nearby. Also hoping to take more mini trips with my family and friends. What’s the fun in working so hard if you don’t have the time and energy left to spend on those you care most about?!
What about you? Any goals that have you excited or nervous?
